Our Halloween

Here are some pictures of our little Oreo. These pictures are from a party one of my students invited us to, which I opted to go to because Jeff was working really late that night and I didn't want to take Cal trick-or-treating by myself.

These pics (below) are from our ward Trunk-or-Treat last Friday. Cal liked all of the commotion, but mostly he just wanted to crawl around on the floor. Crawling and climbing. Those too activities are far more interesting than any party!

When Cal and I went shopping for candy for the Trunk-or-treat, I saw some little bite-size granola bars. At first I thought, "Now that's a good idea,...something a little healthier." Then I said to myself, "Angie, are you CRAZY??? Where's your sense of party, your Halloween spirit? You don't give out healthy stuff for Halloween..." (Not that it's bad if you're reading this and you decided to go with the granola bars this year.) I'm a firm believer that Halloween is truly a kids' holiday--not that it's only for kids, but it turns all of us into kids. It's great to be able to remember what it was like and to act like a kid every once in awhile...at least once a year! I hope your Halloween was great.

You've got a good looking Oreo there, Angie. Happy Halloween to the Cal Man.

Our ward had a Trunk or Treat party this year, and the young Mormon dentist in town wrote the words "Fun Sucker" on his face and handed out small tubes of toothpaste.

It was funny, actually, and at first I felt a twinge of guilt that I was escorting my children on an approved candy binge, not to mention my "responsibilities" as the town doctor. I also reflected briefing on the dark/ demonic overtones of the holiday, and whether or not it's appropriate for children or for anyone.

But I quickly overcame those feelings as I saw what a good time my little princess and lion were having. Besides Christmas and birthdays, Halloween is just about the biggest day of the year. Joy and Grant had been looking forward to it for a month. And I used to LOVE Halloween as a child myself, which wasn't so very long ago.

So I agree. Let kids be kids on Halloween. Childhood doesn't last forever . . .

Wow Angie you have one cute son! He looks adorable amd you look great too! ;-) This year i realized that people can get mad at me for treat or treating but the fact is i had fun and i didn't do stupid things that a lot of people do on halloween. They blame teenager for being stupid when they should be finding ways to have more interesting things and encoraging the not stupid things! They blame teenager for everything but the fact is one day we will rule the world and then we will see what we think looking back on ourselves as teenagers. Anyways you son is darling!

Mark--
You bring up great points. I really would support my kids getting healthy stuff for Halloween...some of the children in our primary got little packs of Halloween crayons and little tubs of Play-doh. I guess I just had a moment of weakness in the store when I imagined some little kid dejectly throwing my granola bar into the "trade away" pile, which probably wouldn't really happen anyway.
